So you’ve started to redo your childs bedroom? Or maybe you just want to spice up his or her existing room? Whatever the case, and without spending too much money, you can easily add some extra love and style to your childs room. Small items can have a big effect on how your childs room looks and whether he or she enjoys spending time there. Here we talk about some of the more common and practical things to include:

1) Rugs – rugs serve a special purpose in your childs room. Not only can they brighten up the room and add color, but they also can serve as a comfortable play area. If your child is like all others, he or she probably enjoys rolling around on the floor and playing with their toys there. Give them a comfortable place to lay down and explore their imaginations. A plush comfy rug can do all these things.

2) Dont ignore the ceiling – one of the most overlooked aspects of a childs room is often the ceiling. Consider ideas like glow in the dark stars and planets, large polka dots, hanging mobiles, hanging airplanes, etc that will add that extra flair to tie your childs room together.

3) Walls arent just for posters – many parents have come up with very unique ideas for walls. Everything from sports memorabilia, to artwork your child has created, to oversized clocks, to polka dots, to handing shelves and storage can make your child feel more relaxed and at home in their bedrooms.

4) Unique lighting – when its getting time for bed, it can be fun to create a unique and relaxed mood in the room for your child. Consider adding black lights or other colored lights that will get your child ready for bedtime.

5) Really play up a theme – if your child is into pirates, have play swords and eye patches handy. For the princess in your life, add a place to host tea parties and add draped around the bed. Decorations can also be fun too!

An example of this could be a table. For adults, a table generally serves a singular primary purpose. Your dining room table is for eating at. Your coffee table provides storage for things in your living room. But for a child, a table can be many many things. It is the place they color, draw, host tea parties, play paper football, etc. With this in mind, when it comes time to choosing new furniture for your child’s bedroom, look for designs that are versatile and functional in nature. Here are some tips that will help create the perfect furniture setup for your child:

1) There is a modern trend towards incorporating storage space into our regular childrens furniture pieces. No longer should under your childs bed be a wasteland of discarded toys or forgotten school projects. Many new childrens beds have hideaway sliding drawers that can house anything from toys to clothes to books. This extra storage space turns an otherwise cluttered or wasted area into an organized space for storing their possessions.

2) Flexible table sets – many new table sets on the marker have built in storage and can be adjusted in size, very much like your dining table might. A table that can be adjusted in size can accommodate different setups and serve different functions, and will grow along with your child.

3) Play houses – many people consider these a “toy,” but for the smart parent, playhouses present another storage oppurtunity. Playhouses, or dollhouses, are the perfect storage place for your childs doll collection.

4) Themes can be fun and flexible. Your child might be into hot wheels, barbies, or one of a million other fads. But you know they wont be into it forever. So rather than pidgeon holing yourself into a single theme, why not create something that can change and grow along with your child? Instead of a hot wheels bed, go with a bed that matches the rest of the room, and then decorate it using sheets, pillows, and blankets. That way, you can change the theme down the road.

Its the place to stimulate their imagination, promote growth and learning, and provide a sanctuary in which to get her beauty sleep. But as you know all to well, your little angel doesnt stay little for too long. With growth and aging comes new interests, hobbies and passions. So how do you create her a room that will not be “outgrown” within a years time? Thats a question many parents find themselves asking when deciding how to decorate and arrange their child’s bedroom. Here are some tips to consider:

1) Remember that as your child grows, so too does her furniture need to. Dont buy furniture that fits her now – anticipate this growth. Look for beds that have adjustable height, so that you can get her a larger bed now but make it closer to the ground.

2) Remember that fads come and go. She may be a Barbie girl now, but that might now be the case in a year or two. Elect to decorate using her favorite colors, and then highlight the things she likes with items that can be swapped and replaced. Using pinks and purples for the main design elements can be accented by Barbie or priness sheets, toys, and posters.

3) Play areas are key. Buy comfortable rugs to play on, tables that can easily be wiped clean of paint and crayola, and adequate lighting.

4) Plenty of storage will make cleaning easier. Kid friendly storage areas such as baskets and shelves make cleanup time a bit less painful.

5) Set the stage for later years when homework comes first. Be sure to provide a comfortable place at a table to read and write.

Your little girl will love going to her room if you make it comfortable and organized.

Your little man needs a room that allows him to slip away on adventures into his imagination. One of the biggest difficulties in doing to lies in the fact that his hobbies and interests can change on a dime as he grows each year. While hot wheels or batman may be his favorite toys now, these may soon see the back of the closet when a new fad or craze comes along. So how do you create a room that will grow with your child? Thats one of the more common questions that comes to mind when creating a new room for your child. Here are some basic tips to consider:

1) Remember that as your child grows, so too does his furniture need to. Rather than getting him a bed that he fits in now, get him a bed that he can grow into. Many larger beds will have adjustable frames so that you can place the mattress lower to the ground, making it easier for him to get in and out of.

2) Rather than picking a single theme, such as hot wheels or power rangers, use his favorite color as the basis for the rooms designs. He is far less likely to outgrow the love of a color than his love for a particular toy or fad.

3) Create a “play area.” A difficulty for parents is always keeping their child’s room clean. Many parents now designate a particular area of a room as the “play area” and design the room around that area. Get a nice comfy rug for him to play and roll around on, and place his favorite toys into storage area around this area. This will make cleanup easier, as his toys will likely stay in this area.

4) Storage is key. We cant overstate the importance of storage. You dont just need drawers for his clothes. Look for kid-friendly storage solutions like baskets and shelves to store his toys and playthings.

5) Lastly, always remember the purposes of this room. He does more than just play and sleep in here. His room should be a place for him to learn and explore his imagination. The walls are a great place for posters of his newest passions. Be sure to include plenty of books for bedtime reading, plenty of lighting, and places to draw/color/write.
